Abstract
This thesis studies three interrelated aspects of skill accumulation in macro-economics. Each thesis chapter targets different aspects of skill accumulation in a macroeconomic environment: role of trade, role of outside ownership of assets, and role of unemployment. The chapters are thematically united in an explanatory approach which targets market incompleteness which arises from failures of intertemporal commitment: commitment to repay debt, commitment to acquire specific skills and commitment to form future productive matches.
